This Week in Reconstruction, March 14-20, 1869

The Government has failed us. Senator Sprague believes that when compared to the Country from which we came (Great Britain) we are a failure. He states, "that not only in capital, but in general intelligence, in education, in liberty among its people, they far exceed the privileges and the power of the people in this country." All we have is cotton and tobacco, both of which will be lost. We must push through Reconstruction and look towards the future for economic and social prestige for our Country.
