September 19, 1870

A meeting has been called together by the mayor of this city. At this meeting of the Republicans of Henrico County, it is planned that candidates for upcoming state convention be selected.

A mass meeting of the Republicans of Hen- rico county was held at the county court- house on Saturday for the purpose of electing delegates to the State Convention to be held in this city on the 23rd. The meeting was called to order by Major Samuel L. Anable, who, after reading the call, was unanimously elected chairman of the meeting, George M. Fleck being chosen secretary. On motion, the meeting proceeded to elect a committee of three from each township to report suitable persons to represent the Republican party in said Convention, and to constitute a new county committee. The committee reported the following- named persons, which selection was con- firmed by the meeting: Dr. G. K. Gilmer, Samuel L. Anable, Lewis Robinson, and Henry Austin. The meeting was then addressed by Messrs. L. G. Bowden and David Robinson. The meeting subsequently selected a county committee and adjourned.
