Title
This Week in Reconstruction, September 13-19, 1868
Description
The paper reports that Richmond is at a tipping point of becoming one of the largest manufacturing centers in the United States. An abundance of coal and iron is awaiting development, slowed only by a disorderly and stagnant federal government. The Daily Dispatch defends the Confederacy from a critic of the POW camp Andersonville, arguing that the Confederates simply lacked the resources. They also argue that secession from the Union was constitutional.
