This Week in Reconstruction, January 1-7, 1871
Description
Charges and editorials of perseverance are made directly to the people of Richmond about how they must persevere in 1871. Citizens should want to get through Reconstruction as soon as possible to reclaim Richmond as their own and pass laws that will restore Virginia back old ways. Many people in Richmond are doubting the progress and hope for the city, but The Dispatch assures progress, and states that, "there are always uneasy gentry around who think things are not improving unless they themselves are moving." The reporters for The Dispatch know that progress is being made even at a gradual speed. Richmond must "bide our time, so that when we will strike it will be with a purpose, and a blow that will send the Radicalism reeling to its political grace."
