Title

This Week in Reconstruction, July 8-14, 1866

Description

Radicals plot to manipulate the outcome of the Philadelphia National Convention by securing attendance of violent and extreme white Southern Democrats. They hope that this will destroy any chance of white Southern ideals influencing the North. White Southerners start to worry about the possibility of having a Radical Congress and Radical President. With panic and urgency, they warn each other that they must win the upcoming election or they will lose all of their rights. White Southerners are overjoyed to hear that the proposed Freedmen's Bureau bill will almost definitely be vetoed by Johnson, ending the continuation of the organization.
